Adamawa State Scholarship Trust Fund

Law No. 10 of December 2008 established the Adamawa State Scholarship Trust Fund as a government parastatal. The geometric rise in student population, the Boko Haram insurgency, and dwindling government finances forced the Adamawa state government to critically reexamine its role in providing students bursaries, special and full scholarships, and student loans at both local and international levels.

The state government had to reorganize its scholarship program to reflect reality. ASSTF’s capabilities and functions include:

(a) Nigerian and foreign funding and scholarships.

(b) give state residents scholarships.

Boko Haram has ravaged six North Eastern Nigerian states, including Adamawa. Over 9,000 internally displaced students at all educational levels need scholarships. Thus, unique scholarship burdens have skyrocketed, needing immediate action. According to the Trust Fund Law, the ASSTF must properly use funds from various sources to fulfill its objective. The ASSTF must:

invest surplus credit or savings in securities defined in the Trustees Investment Act 1962 or as may be advised by the Board for Governor approval.

The ASSTF will then pay eligible candidates scholarship allowances using 12(h) proceeds/dividends.

2009 saw ASSTF skeleton services begin. The state government gave the Trust Fund five years to break even under an experimental program. The 2013 Boko Haram insurgency threatened the 2014 objective, which was destroyed by fighting.

The insurgency was characterized by acquisition of regions, constant suicide bombings and large attacks on innocent targets. Streets of major cities and towns over ran by the insurgents were littered with dead bodies of innocent bystanders.

The state government had to focus all its resources and attention towards distribution of relief goods and other humanitarian assistance alongside alternative security measures for the escalating numbers of civilian casualties.

The foresight and hard work of Engr. (Dr.) Umar B. Bindir -SSG Adamawa State, who is as well the overseer of the ASSTF, have adjusted the methods of responding to complicated challenges of scholarship for a society destroyed by a world class lethal insurgency.

Conclusion

The initiative of the Adamawa State Scholarship Trust Fund is an excellent opportunity for Adamawa State natives pursuing higher education in Nigeria.

Therefore, all eligible students are strongly encouraged to apply during the application period.

To ensure a smooth application process, applicants are advised to collect all necessary information and documentation prior to submitting their application.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to use the ASSTF’s official contact channels for any additional assistance.

Remember that the future is brighter when we invest in education, and that every scholarship opportunity is a step toward more educated and prosperous society.
